Abstract

Theme: Being Human in Tech

Technology advances through human ingenuity, yet the tech industry's greatest asset isn't just innovation or efficiency - it's the diverse minds driving both forward. This session explores how embracing varied perspectives across gender, culture, background, and experience leads to meaningful impact.

Through personal stories and reflections, our two speakers will share their journeys and lived experiences within their careers, exploring the obstacles encountered, victories achieved, and wisdom gained whilst navigating and reshaping a fast-moving industry.

Their perspectives highlight the power of diversity not just as a value, but as a driving force for innovation and connection in the tech world. Attendees will leave understanding how different lived experiences translate into better outcomes and why cultivating truly inclusive environments remains essential for the industry's continued evolution and relevance.

Denesh Bhabuta

Denesh Bhabuta has spent over 30 years helping people and networks connect better. From running his own hosting and infrastructure company to advising major Internet and telecom organisations, he’s always focused on making the Internet more collaborative, open, and accessible.

You might know Denesh from his work building some of the Internet’s most vibrant communities. As Executive Director and Event Operations Director of UKNOF, he helped turn it into the go-to gathering for UK network operators. At DNS-OARC, he brought people together from across the globe through events and outreach. And as founder of PTNOG, he built Portugal’s network operators’ community from the ground up. He's also known for creating and running the (unofficial) Pastel de Nata Working Group at RIPE meetings.

Denesh has also previously contributed as a PC member at LINX and UKNOF, co-chaired the former RIPE LIR Working Group, and was an early Policy Advisor to Nominet. He has also served as a Director at Nominet, LONAP, and the UK ENUM Consortium, always championing a more inclusive, forward-thinking Internet industry.

Beyond tech, he’s a trustee of Usurp, an arts and community charity, showing that his passion for connection goes well beyond BGP and DNS. Whether it’s networks, creative projects, or just good conversations over coffee, Denesh believes the best things happen when people come together.
